The new airport is located approximately 10 miles Northwest of Thermopolis, WY off Highway 120. Planning for this new airport began in the 1980’s and officially started with a groundbreaking ceremony on September 13, 2012. Construction consisted of six major phases which began on October 16, 2012 and will be concluded this fall. The airport will be open to the public and pilots on November 7, 2015.

“We are excited to wrap up a project that has taken over a decade of planning and construction,”said Brad W. Basse, Hot Springs County Commission Chairman. “We have constructed a top quality, federally approved general aviation airport that will serve Hot Springs County as well as an entire nation of flying public for decades to come.”

The new airport will no doubt spur and continue to provide an economic boost for Hot Springs County.

“The new Hot Springs County airport will add economic benefit to the local community, Big Horn Basin and the State of Wyoming,” said Jeremy Gilb, PE, LSIT of GDA Engineers. “Attractions, such as the Hot Springs State Park, and the Big Horn River bring tourists and fisherman to the region. The new airport will accommodate business and charter jets as well as all other general aviation traffic. In addition, the new airport will provide increased ability for medevac flights in and out of the Thermopolis area, which can be a challenge in the Big Horn Basin.”
